  Pomodoro Ristorante Italiano in Wilmington offers an intimate setting where you can enjoy authentic Italian cuisine inspired by the timeless flavors of southern Italy. Our renowned chefs Francesco and Marco Parmisciano prepare traditional dishes just as their grandmother did over fifty years ago in the old country.

  Mrs. Pomodoro founded the first Pomodoro Ristorante in 1953, and her savory cooking quickly gained a reputation as the finest in the Italian province of Cilentana. In fact, both locals and tourists alike considered the restaurant “The Rose of San Marco.” As the restaurant grew in popularity, Mrs. Pomodoro instructed her daughter in the traditions of the Neapolitan kitchen; in turn, the daughter passed the family’s time-honored recipes and passion for cooking on to her children, the Parmisciano brothers, who continued to run the restaurant with enormous success and acclaim.

  After over 25 years of delicious meals, the original restaurant was destroyed in a powerful earthquake. The brothers were distraught. Attempts to reopen the restaurant in a different location were unsuccessful: the food was still fantastic, but something else was missing. Disheartened, the brothers went their separate ways. Francesco took his family and his culinary expertise to America, where his passion for the Neapolitan cuisine landed him jobs at well-known restaurants in New York City and Philadelphia. Marco continued to prepare the Italian dishes he loved, but plied his trade in Spain and other European countries before relocating to Delaware in 1994.

  Today, the Parmisciano brothers are reunited and once again continuing their grandmother’s legacy. Local businessman Fortunato Cristiano had fond memories of the Parmisciano’s first restaurant in San Marco and, in opening the new Pomodoro Ristorante Italiano in Wilmington, has helped the brothers to recapture that long lost dream.
